Most People Ask-What Are Hemorrhoids?

Understanding what hemorrhoids are will enable you
to make informed decisions
on the best steps to take
to get rid of them.

Hemorrhoids are masses of tissue that are comprised
of blood vessels within the anal canal
.
They are com-posed of muscle fibers that are within the supporting tissue.

The anal canal is the last four centimeters between
the rectum and the anus.  The opening is called the
anus.

Blood vessels that "feed" blood to the anal canal come down from the rectum.  This area has a full network of arteries that make it the right conditions for creating hemorrhoids.

When a person sees that the blood from the hemorrhoids is bright red, it is because is direct arterial blood rather than venous blood.  This is also why bleeding from hemorrhoids can be both serious and severe.

Blood Flow Creates The Kind of Hemorrhoid

The anal veins draw blood away from the anal canal and drain in two ways:

One direction is upward into the rectum. -Or-
Down through the skin that surrounds the anus.

If the anal canal has a hemorrhoid form at the top or inside, it is called an Internal Hemorrhoid.

If the hemorrhoid forms near the anus, in the anal canal, it is called an External Hemorrhoid

The only real difference between an Internal Hemorrhoid or and External Hemorrhoid is its position above or below the "Pectinate Line" (which is a line that divides the upper 2/3rds and lower 1/3rd of the anal canal.

When the hemorrhoids are forming, the blood vessels
and the supporting tissues swell.  "Bulges" then pro-
trude into the anal canal making it extremely uncom-fortable and painful.  It actually has not yet been determined the reasons for the
formation of External Hemorrhoids.
