Hemorrhoid
Treatment
Piles is simply
another name for hemorrhoids. They are inflamed veins in the
rectal area and there are several reasons why hemorrhoids
(piles) develop in the anal canal.

The most common
reasons for the swelling and bleeding of piles include
constipation, stress, pregnancy, lack of excercise, lifting
heavy weights, cancer, over exertion, cancer, smoking, stress
and excessive use of alcohol. Hemorrhoids are always very itchy
and painful.
Symptoms and causes of
Hemorrhoids
As noted in
previous pages, the main cause of
hemorrhoids (piles) stems from swollen and
weakened veins and constipation. The pressure from hard
stools passing through the anal canal irritates and
presses against already inflammed veins making them swell
further. There are other systemic disorders that can have
a direct affect on the development and formation of piles
such as prostate enlargement, cirrosis, coughing or
pregnancy.
Many people don't
even realize that they have hemorrhoids until they begin to
feel itchy and begin to suffer from pain when going to the
toilet. It is freightening to see blood on the stool. Most
often, by the time a person sees this, they already have
hemorrhoids. Bleeding caused by
hemorrhoids is often a dark red in
color.
Hemorrhoids Treatment Options
There are
normally two forms of hemorrhoid treatment:
The first is
utilizing home remedies:
Most important is
to eat plenty of foods that are high in
fiber and take
lots of fluids (water). Foods that are high in fiber include
whole grain bread, fruits, brown rice and
vegetables.
-
Ointments and
creams can
bring temporary pain relief but generally won't cure
piles permanently.
- Apply ice or aloe vera to the
affected can help reduce swelling and pain caused by
piles.
Mild excercise to
get the blood flowing at least a little so there ismovement
through the veins.
Options Through
Surgery
If you decide to go with surgery (it is strongly recommended that you
try every other possible option available first) there are
numerous surgical options available to you, some of them
include :
Band Ligation – a rubber band is tied around the base
of the hemorhoid which causes it to dry up since blood can not
flow though it. It actually then falls
off.
Hemorrhoidectomy (see Surgery For Hemorrhoids)–this is
generally the most painful and the last resort for removal of
hemorrhoids. It often takes several weeks to recover from this
procedure.
Infrared
Coagulation -
Infrared beam is used to burn off some
tissues to cut off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid.
Five to six treatments (one per week) are necessary.
Although it's advertised as pain-free, many patients
complain of intense pain during treatment. It does not
cure the cause so the hemorrhoids usually
reappear.
Injection Sclerotherapy-a
chemical solution that is injected around the blood vessel to
shrink the hemorrhoid.
Infrared photocoagulation-
a special device is used to burn the hemorrhoidal
tissue.
